Creative

.kree-ey-tiv.

Meaning:
1. having the quality or power of creating
2. resulting from originality of thought, expression, imagination: creative writing.

Nurturing students to think creatively might be a problem if they are not taught to think in a diversity of ways from young. Being creative can sometimes be easy and might be the most intricating activity for some students which results in students giving up on themselves. This is because they fail to push the envelope of how they think.

Students nowadays are creative but they just don’t realize that they can be creative. They learn things more holistically by placing their emotional intelligence in learning. The connection between personal thoughts and subject matter creates the students to think more about the content matter and thus trigger creativity.

The easiest tool to become a creative student is by drawing a mind map either in your head or on paper. It makes you become innovative by trying to link from one element to another. The more branches you make, the more that your brain is thinking thus enabling you to become creative in such matter by thinking beyond of what you are supposed to think about.

So, be creative from now on.

Heartless

Read 'coma after attack'. Malay version here.

He died this morning. Al-fatihah to arwah Farhan. When his father passed away he stopped studying just to support his family. May his soul rest in peace.

When he was attacked, his girlfriend /supposed to be fiancée said they were texting each other as she was trying out the engagement dress.
Before this incident, the murderer tried to woo the girl but was rejected by the girl/girl’s family. He seems to be too obsessed with the girl just like in the movie ‘No One Would Tell’ where innocent lives were killed.

Why are people so evil? They don’t deserve to be called human beings.

Here's a clip of Farhan and his noisy hobby.
Al-fatihah

Learning a second language (L2)

Malaysians have learnt English since primary school which makes a total number of 11 years of learning the language. Everybody starts learning from letters, pronunciation, syllables and gradually move up to a higher level to identifying words, constructing sentences which will eventually lead to a paragraph and an essay. Everyone is learning English but only some students by the end of the 11 years of study seem to be proficient in the language. Why does this happen? Ditch the theories about right or left brain dominance…

Reality reveals that in our daily lives we often use our mother tongue. Indeed it is still important for Malaysians to be proficient in Malay language but it doesn’t hinder you from learning other languages. To be good in another language (far from being excellent as linguists) is to practice because language is a skill. It is not to be memorized but it is to be applied in your life regularly. Some students may ask me how they can improve their English. I will ask them back, how did you learn your mother tongue?

This reoccurring question doesn’t bother me; at least it gets the students to think about what they should do. So, what should you do to improve yourself in terms of learning another language (either English or Arabic)? The answer to the question is easier said than done. All you need to do is practice. Practice all the skills, reading, writing, speaking and listening. Grammar can be learnt according to the situation, the purpose and can be learnt implicitly. You must have effort and motivation to learn and succeed.

My observation shows that students are talking with friends, but they are talking in Malay. As for my class students, they know that I’ll fine them, so in the end, they put a pause in the conversation until I leave. This occurs every year no matter which course, medic, dental students, science, law or accountancy students. Then, they have their mp3’s or 4 but I know that they listening to a malay station or malay songs rarely do they listen to an English station. When it comes to reading, they love reading metro and neglects The Star. These are routines in our daily life, the simple things that can be applied with some effort. So if these simple things are carried out in such manner, the other things you do in life will probably end up in the same way. How can you improve yourself when these basic simple things are left out and done in a manner that you are secured and suitable with. You need to change.

Change requires effort and willingness. A positive change is good for the personal growth. So don’t be reluctant to speak in the language, consider it a part of your learning process. Overcome your shyness or fear of making mistakes. Learn and improvise on it. Find small opportunities to communicate, read and listen to materials in the language. Learning a language is Easy as E is indeed for EFFORT.

Happy Father's Day

to all fathers out there..

my father always asks me "how the day was?" after any exams of anything BIG that happened in my life.
my regular answer would be either "it was really tough", or "i don't want to think about it". both showed signs of frustration.
he always come out with this phrase which i hold on to dearly
"there is nothing easy in this world. if everything was easy, there wont be a purpose for us to live in this world."

now i always remind myself of that phrase. we live to work hard. for the rest of our lives.

another piece of advice form my dad is to organize my life. i certainly inherited being a perfectionist from ma' dad. for me being a perfectionist has its ups and downs. but to tell u the truth it's for the best. "everything has to be in organized. all the pieces of papers has to kept in 'special' files. it'll be difficult at first but once you've got the hang of it everthing after that will be sailing smoothly.

so u lot better start buying a file for english so that all your work can be kept nicely in files for future reference.
